Kempten as an old Roman town
The metropolis of Kempten is located in the holiday region Allgäu. Versatile leisure activities are waiting for you! The Allgäu High Alps with their impressive mountain scenery and the Nebelhornbahn, the highest mountain railway in the Allgäu, are also within reach. The city of Kempten possesses the oldest written evidence of an urban settlement in Germany and to this day there is no trace of this pre-Roman settlement, but archaeological excavations confirm the existence of the Roman city of Cambodunum since the beginning of the 1st century BC.
